About HCYPAA
Houston Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous
The Houston Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous is a very loosely organized organization whose purpose is basically to finance, organize, and put on an annual three-day conference on one weekend during the summer (usually in July or late June). This annual conference, secondary events, committee meetings, and the fellowship that results hopefully support the sobriety of those involved.
Events
Several Events are held throughout the year mainly to outreach for the Conference. These Events are usually themed (Halloween, New Year's, Casino Night, etc.) and all usually begin with a one hour speaker, followed by various activities (games, dance, whatever). These events are intended to generate interest in our upcoming Conference and also to be opportunities where sober people can gather together to have fun in sobriety.
Committee Meetings
HCYPAA holds monthly Committee Meetings where the Conference and supporting Events are discussed and planned. These meetings usually occur on the last Sunday of the month at 4pm at the Primary Purpose Club. Everyone is welcome to attend these Committee Meetings and participate, but special positions (Chairs) are elected to oversee and be responsible for various duties. Meeting business usually includes progress reports from the various Chairs as well as discussion and election of new Chairs as they are needed.
The Conference
The end result of the planning and fundraising efforts throughout the year is our annual Conference. The Conference takes place in a hotel on a weekend in the Summer, starting on Friday afternoon and wrapping up that Sunday morning. Speakers are flown in from out of town and there are lots of activities and meetings.
The Advisory Council
The HCYPAA Advisory Council is formed for the express purpose of furthering the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous through its annual conference and related events. The Council is the custodian of the conference experience. It shall offer to anyone who requests it, information regarding young people and young peoples groups in the Houston area, as pertaining to recovery in the AA program. It shall make its knowledge and experience available to local service structure for use through AA.
